Emergency Preparedness

CHA's Northeast Ohio Emergency Preparedness Initiative

CHA's objectives for Emergency Preparedness revolve around distributing federal funds to Northeast Ohio hospitals to increase the region’s overall level of emergency preparedness.

Program Objectives:

  • Helping Northeast Ohio hospitals meet the standards of minimal readiness established by the National Bioterrorism Hospital Preparedness Program (NBHPP) and those established by the Ohio Department of Health.
  • Helping Northeast Ohio hospitals have increased capacity and capability to respond to natural and manmade disaster events as a result of their participation in the regional hospital program.
  • Helping Northeast Ohio Hospitals use HRSA funds to purchase equipment and provide staff training.
  • Serving as the regional hospital coordinator and working with public health and public safety coordinators to achieve an integrated emergency response plan for the region.

CHA's Key Partners in Preparedness:

  • Northeast Ohio hospital steering committee (47 members), four subcommittees (Funding, Patient Surge, Safety/Security, and Education/Training) and the 27 hospital primary contacts.
  • Regional coordinators representing public health and public safety.
  • Ohio Department of Health and the six regional hospital coordinators.
